The comfort zone. A place where we feel safe. A place with little risk. A place where we're content. Most of us live in our comfort zone, but we need to step out if we want to enjoy more of the world. When we break free and change things up, we experience a different side of life.
Baby steps. Progress takes time...lots of time. Before we jump to anything drastic, we want to start small. Take a different route home. Eat a different food at your favorite restaurant. Create small talk with someone you see today. As we kill the anxiety and get more comfortable with these little changes, we prepare ourselves for the bigger challenges.
Expansion. After we've taken some baby steps, it's time to expand our comfort zone entirely. We need to put ourselves in situations of uncertainty and change. As we face uncomfortable situations, we learn and grow. This sets us up to push bigger boundaries in the future. New people, ideas, and experiences all come together when step out into the world.
Processing. We can't live outside the comfort zone forever. It's normal to retreat to our comfort zone, so we can process and plan. The goal is to expand our walls and push the boundaries of what we're willing to do. Once we make facing new challenges a habit, everything will fall into place.
As we start expanding our comfort zone, we'll begin to experience things we never imagined. It will be challenging, but the reward of exploring what life has to offer is priceless.
"Be willing to step outside of your comfort zone once in a while; take the risks in life that seem worth taking. The ride might not be as predictable if you'd just planted your feet and stayed put, but it will be a heck of a lot more interesting." -Edward Whitacre, Jr.
