Adversity is the foundation that binds us together. No matter who we are, we all go through difficult situations that challenge our character. Many of us shy away from adversity, but adversity is the only thing that pushes us to where we need to be.
Resilience. When we face tough obstacles and have to problem solve a way out, we develop resilience and perseverance. We take these skills for granted, but developing a tougher frame of mind is what pushes us to the next level.
Resourcefulness. When we’re stuck in a hard circumstance, we become crafty. With little options, we use our creativity to find what works for us. Developing this type of resourcefulness can have a positive impact later in our life and it’s not something we usually think about in times of crisis.
Success. There’s a certain threshold of adversity. If we don’t get enough, we never take our life to the next level. If we get too much, we fall into the abyss. The right amount of adversity challenges who we are and what we’re capable of. Over time, we develop into someone who can take on challenges and ride out the storms — something extremely vital for success and achievement.
Of course, most adversity at first is seen as bad as it should be, but adversity sets us up for the future. When we change our perspective, we can see a silver lining and find acceptance. Obstacles are hard to deal with and life isn’t easy for anyone. We all face many sets of challenges, but overcoming them sends us in the right direction.
“There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time.” -Malcolm X
